there's something peaceful about this season

Perhaps it is the solitude of winter; I feel the stillness of the air and the quiet all around bring a sense of peace and calmness.

each one unique

I never really took much notice of seagulls until I moved to Cape Cod. I just saw them as "those big white and gray birds who live near the ocean".

When I started to photograph them, I realized how unique they each are. Their markings and faces, even their beaks, are all somewhat different.

But one thing they all have in common... they'll flock in droves to your car door if you wave a french fry out your window!

now it is VERY cold...

If these lonesome benches can withstand the harsh New England winter which will surely arrive, they will beckon its first visitors of Spring, much like we welcome the robins!

it REALLY does...

... snow at the beach! It's even better when the tide is out during a snowstorm, as it gives a chance for the shoreline to crust over with ice and snow.

It hasn't snowed here this much just yet (these are some of my archived photos), but before long, the beaches will soon look this way once again.

after the storm

After the storm, the tides churn and toss up all sorts of surprises on the beach (often mixed with seaweed)! Sometimes you have to sift through the weeds in order to find that one special treasure. Is it worth the work? It depends upon how highly you value the treasure!

We used to call these "money rocks" or "lucky rocks" when we were kids. If a white line wrapped its way entirely around the rock in a complete circle, you had a treasure. Even better if it had two complete white lines. While of course these stones were of no value, in our childlike minds they were worth their weight in gold! It's all in how you view your world. =)
