HerbertJay Solomon, better known as Herbie Mann, was a Jewish American jazzflutist and important early practitioner of world music. Early in hiscareer, he also played tenor saxophone and clarinets (including bassclarinet), but Mann was among the first jazz musicians to specialize onthe flute and was perhaps jazz musics preeminent flutist during the1960s.
